Eco Factor: Unmanned aircraft powered by solar energy.
Aurora Flight Sciences has announced that the company successfully flew their latest solar powered UAV, the SunLight Eagle. The flights took place at the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Flight Test Center operated by the Physical Science Laboratory of New Mexico State University. The news came just days after the company announced the successful completion of a solar aircraft from DARPA’s Vulture Program.

An MP3 Player that feeds off your energy! Here is an amazingly wonderful gadget that falls in to the line of those eco-friendly magic devices that barely need any energy and go easy on the green planet. So if you want to enjoy your music and simultaneously want to spread the magic of your music around the planet in a harmoniously green fashion then this is your MP3 Player. This MP3 player needs absolutely no charge apart from you being interested enough in your music enough to shake your hips to it.

Hips don’t lie but they now do charge your MP3 player. This eco-friendly product is not surprisingly out of the Chinese market and it uses the mechanical energy of your moments to charge itself. It comes with a Bluetooth and it charges as you shake to your music or enjoy it while doing your workout. You could charge while dancing in the disco or when going out for a jog. If you ask me, then there are plenty of other ways but because I do not wish to be ‘Rated R’ and I wish even little kids should now about this green gadget, I will refrain from making any further suggestions.
The technology is really cool and it makes sure that you never run out of charge. For the more tranquil music lovers, you could still use this system as back up to your main energy source. For me though, this works just fine. I suppose I can just carry this to the ground in every morning and by the time I hit a few balls and do a bit of running; I’ll have enough charge for the day. Works like a charm indeed!

Gigabyte, the popular Taiwanese Company, has assembled a PC that is one of the very few ones to monitor energy consumption by slowing down the PC when not active. In other words, it provides extra power for the PC. Gigabyte endeavors to achieve this end by using a software called called Dynamic Energy Saver (DES).
The DES works fine with motherboards that are compatible with the latest Intel 45nm processors, specifically for Intel’s Hafnium-based 45nm processor technology, thanks to Intel’s VRM 11.1 specification. The VRM 11.1 spec lets the motherboard’s voltage controller (technically, it’s called the phase-width modulator, or PWM) receive a signal from the processor to drop phases during low load or idle processor states.

Talk about self-sustenance! I’m sure everyone out there would have faced this annoying problem of running out of charge on your mobiles or iPod when you are out traveling. No matter how well you plan, your mobile eventually runs out of charge at some point in your trip. This is especially true for someone like me who loves the outdoors a lot. So what do you do in such situations? Well, you obviously let your shirt and trousers do the charging for you! If Zhong Lin Wang of the Georgia Institute of Technology and his team have their way, then that would be true very soon. (more…)

Water is the single most important element on the face of the planet. Sure we need air to breathe and land top live on, but it is the blue magic that separates Earth from the other planets and has been the reason for our very existence. While 75% of the planet is covered in water, only 2 to 3 percent of that water is pure drinking water. With human activity wasting and using so much of water each year, how is it that we get the pure water sources filled up each season?
No, I do not wish to tell you the obvious, but intend to remind you of the importance of something that we believe is simple natural phenomenon and take it for granted. Every time it rains, our fresh water resources are getting a refill from Mother Nature. Of course for some of us rain is more romantic and for others poetic. But we won’t discuss that today; let’s talk about that in detail some other day. The point is nature restores water in its purest form by the simple process of evaporation. The process is simple, but people are now using that very same technique to make modern water purifiers.
