Mass bathing - Water Conservation reinvented

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

The idea of water conservation while bathing has taken newer meanings. Usage of bucket than a shower and turning off the faucet while brushing are yesteryear recommendations. The latest one is an American patent, The United States patent 634629.

G. Hallum, the conceiver of the idea, apparently drew an analogy between human bathing and car washing. The principle behind car washing is to recycle the used water and hence prevent wastage so why not apply the same to human bathing practices? He places special emphasis on executing this plan at hospitals for infirmed patients. To place them on a conveyor belt and hold them by a harness from an overhead trail, soap and rinse and then blow dry these patients is both convenient and hygenic. Price cut for expenditure on towels, water recycled and patients are bathed and fresh. Sounds like a good deal.

Grey water Recycling Kitchen Sink for those obsessed with clean conservation

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Grey water recycling systems have become immensely popular off late and that is not just limited to areas that face a scarcity of water resources. Many self-sustained and easy-to-install grey water systems have come up in the last couple of years that allow us to manage used water in our homes for purposes ranging from flushing to gardening. Now we have another system that is specifically aimed at using the grey water in your home to rinse your dishes. It is not just a system that ensures that you save the planet and your bills but also ensures that your obsession with cleanliness is fulfilled to the helm.

EULO is a sink that performs instant grey water recycling for reuse whilst washing dishes; providing constant rinsing without the water waste. I suppose this is a sink that would perfectly fit into the home of Monica Geller-Bing. It features three levels of inbuilt filtration; a primary particle strainer, a gravity activated carbon filter and a UV sanitizer. It also includes automatic detergent mixing and an entirely fresh water tap. If that does not ensure clean dishes, then I do not understand what does. To top it all off, you can rinse them as many times as you want without wasting any water.

Red dot system - Turning bathrooms green

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

A thousand mile journey begins with a single step. Here is your chance to take one. The red dot system surpasses the precautions to open and close the faucet only and as when you need it. Here is a system that attempts to bring the 3 basic elements of a bathroom together, the tub, sink and toilet. In this facility the water stored from the first two is saved to be reused by pressing the toilet.

To conserve every drop of water with this system might be a long shot for one family but if this sytem is installed in every house it will go a long way in conserving this invaluable natural resource.

Eco-Cook - The farsighted kitchenware

Eco-Cook

Well check out this farsighted kitchenware called the eco-cook. This could well be a necessity in the near future with environmental problems from energy increasing day by day. The idea behind the farsightedness is to help save water, energy and time. It allows you to boil 2-3 food items at the same time, which in turn reduces water, gas and electricity consumption. Water and gas covered, now when food is taken out the eco-cook, it will automatically drain out and help you save time. The designer says this is how dining will be in 2015. Not much time left though, but I have a question for you - Would things get that drastic in just seven years?

BottomsUp concept - getting clean drinking water

If you are the one - paranoid about your drinking water then the concept called ‘BottomsUp’ is out, especially for you. Actually, BottomsUp is a portable water purifier, using which you get crystal clear water. Interestingly, using it is as easy as a child’s play. Just screw it onto the top of the bottle and then screw its other side onto the top of an empty bottle and let the clean water filter down into the empty one. Your clean drinking water is out for you now!

AquaMaker AM10 – Converts air into water!

AquaMaker AM10 - converts air into water

The AquaMaker AM10 is a water generator that creates water by pulling ambient humidity from the air and purifies it to deliver fresh, clean water. The device collects up to 5 gallons of water per day - enough to sustain approximately 10 people. The AM10 has a recycle timer that can be customized to ensure the water in the tanks remains fresh. Everything smooth till now, right? Here is something that you may not like - Since the AM10 requires power to use, it costs $15 a day to use - pretty high considering how much a bottle of mineral water costs at the local convenience store. Actually the device is now selling in the Middle East where potable water is twice as expensive as U.S, even after government subsidy. It retails for $1,200, but folks who find it expensive can rent it for $65 per month.

Use Falcon Waterfree urinals to save water

Falcon Waterfree

If you are wondering what on earth are waterless urinals, well, as the name suggests they do not use water at all to flush. Honestly, initially the idea did not appeal to me at all, because I kept wondering about the hygiene and the cleanliness of these urinals.

But after reading about how these waterless urinals function, all my fears and apprehensions disappeared (Bodily fluids flow into a cartridge which collects “uric sediment” before passing through a layer of liquid sealant and heading down the drain)

According to Falcon Waterfree Technologies (one of the leading manufacturers of waterless urinals), each of their Falcon Waterfree urinal can save up to 40,000 gallons (151,000 liters) of fresh water per year. Now, that’s a lot – think about it that this amount of water does not need to be transported to the urinal or away from it to the water treatment facility too (which ends up saving precious energy).

Save water, save time and save the planet!

Save time, water and save the planet

Hey what’s wrong with the world today? Talk about a thing and the corresponding answer is ‘scarce’. What’s not scarce is the growing pollution, global-warming and off course how can I forget corruption. You will find these things in abundance while the rest is scarce. I’ve started hating this word, but the show (life) must go on. Now here is a product that may help ‘our’ cause, but only and only if we implement it in our day to day lives. The scarcity I am referring here is pertaining to water. It’s a $3 product from Envirosax, a shower timer that sticks to a shower wall with a suction cup. Its blue, pink, green, or gray sands take 4 minutes to pass through the hourglass. In short, you get 4 minutes to clean yourself up. This may look like just another product but mind my words – a little effort from everyone can make a huge difference, a difference that the future generation can uphold, and live until eternity.

Sun Frost's energy-efficient shower

For those who are not aware you will be surprised to know that conventional shower minimize thermal comfort, maximize energy use and water consumption and at the same time increase moisture problems. Can you guess what causes most of these negative effects? Well, it is evaporation. Check out the illustrative image above if you don’t believe me.
