Pioneer shoe – Pioneers in producing electricity on the move

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Chen Feijun and Zhao Bin have invented a shoe called Pioneer that converts kinetic energy of walking into electrical energy, which powers a headlight at the front of the shoe. This shoe has a battery within itself which once charged can be successfully used to power a headlight for twelve hours (the maximum scope of the LED headlight is 1.5m to the front). This shoe has all the safety gears to keep the batter, light and your feet intact. Nightriders, this is what the doctor has ordered for you! So why wait to see yourself lying in some stinky drain when technology has a great deal to offer and that too with a touch of a button.

Solar energy to be used in soldiers’ uniforms

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

War, soldiers, ammunition—what do all these remind us of? Fights, destruction and severe environmental degradation, right? Well, there is a piece of welcome news for us! The uniforms of US soldiers are actually going to be eco-friendly, being powered by solar energy.

An all-new high-tech fabric is to be used in order to incorporate the solar-powered batteries into the cloth of the soldiers’ uniforms. This technique, while meeting the power requirements of an average US soldier (88 AA batteries), would also go a considerable way towards decreasing the weight associated with such batteries.

Wood undies: Keep nature close to your heart…and more!

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Long back, when still in my high school, I really was inspired by Wordsworth and Keats. In case of Keats, it was sheer magic, unadulterated honesty, the pain and the pleasure in beauty that captivated you. In case of Wordsworth though, it was more his undying love for nature and nature in its most vibrant hues that mesmerized you. He always told that the best place to live in is the lap of nature and professed a lifestyle that kept nature close to your heart. Now we are taking that concept a step further or rather, we are testing it to the farthest point possible. Here is nature clothing and it comes in the form of eco-friendly lingerie.

Yup, now your wardrobe can get completely eco-friendly with a new range of lingerie and boxers-cum-knickers made from white pine tree pruning. This new fashion line is designed by Sophie Young and it is obviously for those young and restless at heart; those who wish to dare try something new. Basically, the garment is made from wood or that is what one can say. Now at this point one can make plenty of jokes about ‘wood’ and ‘undergarments’, but I will be the bigger man and pass on that.
